Revival

A message from Brigid ....

I have been a blogger since 2005. At the height of my blogging busy-ness, I had "a small stable" of blogs on different topics: social and political commentary; desert spirituality; food; waste and ....

A few years ago I called time and ceased blogging altogether - although there was an occasional post. I had called it quits. I am an aged woman these days with a couple of serious illnesses. I am not allowed to drive. I am no longer active in organisations. I think it fair to say that I am housebound. I am active on Facebook, although I am not there as often as once I was. I have decided to embark on a re-entry into the blogging world ... beginning with The Trad Pad and, possibly, a return to my food blog, Oz Tucker. I have always used a lot of photographs on my blogs ... and I miss not being out and about with my camera.

The Trad Pad has been my blog for the lovely things of life. The controversial or political has seldom intruded. Occasionally, the spiritual has found its way in, but I kept spirituality for the blog, Desert. I don't yet know if I will revive that. I will stick pretty much to food and the lovely things of life. If I have some regularity with those two categories, I feel that I will be doing well. I hope that, with this blog new friendships can be formed and old friendships renewed; new lovelies discovered; new reflections can enter into the meaning of modern life. I would love to hear from you - particularly if you have suggestions for new topics to enter into the conversation. So, it is a new year. Let's see what it has in store, what it can bring to us. And I hope that those who share the spirit of The Trad Pad can spread the message of a world of beauty, the creativity of humanity, and the joys of simplicity and tradition. ~~~ February, 2017

A Place called Robertson and The Nature of Robertson : a remarkable tiny village in the Southern Highlands

At Robertson, The Big Spud gets a face
Read all about it at The Nature of Robertson by Denis Wilson

As readers of this blog will have gathered, Miss Eagle loves community, tradition and social history.  Miss Eagle's good friend Denis Wilson of The Nature of Robertson has posted to-day about a movie that has just been made about the town of Robertson.  It is called, very simply,  "A Place Called Robertson".

The Southern Highlands of New South Wales is a beautiful and special inland region - and people from the coast who can afford a weekender or holiday house have long recreated there.  These days the place is filled with all manner of tree-changers, including my friend Denis who settled on Robertson, a tiny village in the Southern Highlands, because the weather suited the growing of his favourite flowers, peonies. I say favourite flowers but I do wonder if they are still at the top of his floral list.  This is because, if you follow Denis's blog, you will notice his penchant for those teeny-weeny things known as ground orchids.

I have got to know Robertson, just a little, and some of its talented inhabitants, because of Denis.  You too can get to know Robertson if you read Denis's blog linked above.

If you go to the link about the movie you will find a link to the brief trailer.  I fell about roaring with laughter ... so heaven knows how I would behave at the movies.  The movie appears to be packing them out at the Empire Theatre in nearby Bowral and due to public demand there is to be an additional screening of the Robertson film on Friday March 22nd at 5.30pm for all the people who couldn't get in to the premiere.  It is not a fundraising screening.

I wonder if the movie will travel.  If not, I hope the ABC or SBS pick it up soon so we can all enjoy it and so those of us who have had a taste of the friendship and fun and creativity of Robertson can reminisce as well.

Wot's a wot hotel?

Miss Eagle's funny bone was tickled this morning with the subject heading of an email in her in box saying Wot's a Wot Hotel? Many of you will be familiar with wotif and their marvellous accommodation booking service. Miss Eagle stayed in a wonderful unit in Adelaide last year at a very good price courtesy of the wotif service. So wot's a wot hotel? According to wotif deals at luxury hotels that are so good they won't put their name, just descriptions, to the advertising. Don't they want the competition to know? Will it spoil their image if they are seen to be doing bargain basement rates? Will the nouveau riche not come to stay? Miss Eagle remains amused.

A crop and a cat at The Trad Pad

The backyard Lemon Tree is cropping. This is the first.

With the addition of a little mint, some sweetener and water, this emerged.

This white painted basket with its cheerful gingham liner sits on the floor beside my desk. It is waiting to find a home or a function that is not yet clear. There are a number of cat baskets at The Trad Pad - large, commodious and warmly lined. Yet, in yesterday's cold, Rose the SpartaCat decided to curl up in this. One could never have imagined that he would fit - but fit he did. Perhaps - in spite of this basket being lined only with a simple cotton fabic - it was warm because he could curl himself up tightly into the nearest resemblance of a ball that a large, fat, contented cat can manage.

And this morning, he went nuts. In the pre-dawn dark, as I am sitting in the next room at my computer he is rampant in this chest of drawers in the midst of refurbishment. In, out, roundabout, scratching, on the move, noisy. Mad cat, Rose! Are you training for cheezburger?

Cats, Cheezburger, and hitting the headlines

If you love cats, if you are a fan of I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER, you will love this cute bit of business that is doing the rounds. Miss Eagle has picked it up from Lucy at Sorrow at Sills Bend where you can get details. What a link to this does is generate random cat macros with your post titles on. You will note, dear Reader, that the words above are the title of Miss E's previous post. Have fun!

Tap dancing to May

More Fun Quizzes at QuizPox.com

Over at Two Homes, Patty decided she needed a distraction while doing wonders for her new Art Room. So she takes the blame/credit for referral to this quiz site. Please keep up those prayers and hugs so that come May 25th, Miss Eagle will not only fly but have a decent tap dance in her.

Smoke getting in your eyes?

To-day is getting warmer and to-morrow promises to be a hot Australia Day - scorching in some parts. I have been out and about to-day: over to Coburg through Northcote and Thornbury this morning and midday found me in Lilydale heading for the hills through Monbulk and Belgrave and back home to Upper Gully. Now if it's that hot perhaps you dream of waving coconut palms. But coconut palms in Melbourne? Someone in Thornbury (or is it Coburg) has solved this problem. The photo above shows a green palm tree complete with yellowy green coconuts. I think it might be made from moulded plastic - note the "carved" effect on the "bark" and the spiky "palm fronds". The sky looks clear blue. Glad the camera was so sympathetic. The reality is that a smoky, smoggy haze from widespread Victorian bushfires covers the inner city extending even to the outer east and the Dandenongs. Even our view of the Dandenongs National Park from our home in Upper Gully is thick with smoke. It makes us think of the firefighters, those who have lost homes and livelihood, and - above all - of those who have lost their precious lives. Our prayers are with you all! Posted by Picasa

Do I rule the roost?

I am very interested in this article? Why? Because I am a redhead. Not only am I a redhead - I married a redhead. Two of my children have bright red hair and the third has coppery brown hair which to me is not red but others say that it is. So does this mean the whole family rules the roost? But as my mother used to say "If you're so smart why aren't you rich?" Posted by Picasa
